The research of the IMCE is to realize the power distribution, transmission, and control of hydraulic and Mechatronic systems and related applications. There are seven main research directions, including Hydraulic Transmission and Control, Electro-Pneumatic Components and System, Fluid Measurement and Control, Control and Signal Processing of Mechatronic System, Bio-mechatronic System and MEMS, Ocean Engineering Machinery, Integration and Intelligentization of Mechatronic System.
The academic leader of the IMCE is Prof. Dr-Ing Lu Yongxiang, who is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The IMEC devotes to the basic research of fluid power and mechatronic systems, in the meanwhile, applies the fluid power and mechatronic systems into the fields related to the national economy and industrial development, such as energy, transportation, marine, metallurgy, bio-engineering, etc. The IMCE is the most important scientific research and personnel training center in the fluid power and mechatronic system field in China and had comprehensive international influence. The international academic Conference of Fluid Power Transmission and Control held every four years is one of the three most important international conferences at home and abroad in the fluid power transmission and control field.
The IMCE contains 52 permanent staffs, including 2 academicians, 1 MOE Cheung Kong Scholar, 1 winner of Recipient of National Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 winners of the recruitment program of global experts, 24 professors, 16 associate professors, 191 Doctoral candidates, and 220 Master degree candidates.
