On July 13, 2016, "XiangYangHong 09 Ship" equipped with the "JiaoLong" docked at the Qingdao Deep-Sea Base Terminal, and successfully completed the Ocean 37 voyage examination task. The deep seawater sequence sampler developed by the research team of HOME(Human-machine and Ocean Mechatronic Engineering team) led by professor Yang Canjun of the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and mechatronic Systems, Zhejiang University, participated in the second section of the 37th voyage. During the test, the sampler was mounted on the manned submersible “Jiao Long”, and collected samples of the deep seawater in the abyss area of the Mariana Trench (more than 6000 meters in depth). In this segment, the sequence samplers developed by Zhejiang University participated in nine scientific expeditions and three CTD routine investigation tasks and completed a four-day automatic sequence sampling on the seabed at 6,682 meters. A total of 54 pressure-holding water samples were successfully collected in this segment, where the deepest seawater sample was 6710 meters, which is the deepest seawater serial pressure-holding sample internationally.

The HOMEresearch team led by Prof. Yang Canjun of Zhejiang University, under the support of national projects such as the National 863 Program, has been working on fidelity sampling technology for deep seawater(including deep-sea hydrothermal and cold springs) for fifteen years since the National Tenth Five-Year Plan. This scientific research is the first time in the world to collect sequence pressure water samples in the abyss area over 6000 meters, breaking the world record of the same type of sampler, and meeting the demands of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Wang Shuo, a graduate student of the HOMEresearch team, participated in this expedition and provided on-board technical support and routine maintenance for the deep sea sequence sampler sea trial to ensure the normal operation of the sampler.

As the chief scientist of this project, Associate Professor Wu Shijun, doctoral supervisor of the HOME research team of Zhejiang University, successfully organized the development of the “Deep Sea BottomWater Body and Sediment Airtight Sampling Device”, which is the key project of the 13th Five-Year National Key R&D Program “DeepSea Key Technologies and Equipment” project which will be approved for 10 million yuan. During the 13th Five-Year, HOME will continue deep-sea sampling technology, and hopefully, the 11,000sampler will be finished, serving ten thousand meters manned submersible for China and providing the abyss science research with strong technical support.
