October 13, 2017, at the invitation of Academician Yang Huayong ,Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Zhejiang University and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and mechatronic Systems, Prof. Zhang Yuanting, Academician of theInternational Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, and editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Biomedical Engineering Review Dr. PangZhibo, the director of ABB's Swedish R&D headquarters, and Prof.Ma Ting from Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) visited Zhejiang University. The meeting was held in the lecture hall of 212Shao Yifu Science Museum of Zhejiang University. Academician ZhangYuanting gave a keynote speech for Zhejiang Master students on the topic of “Health Engineering: Artificial Intelligence in MajorDisease Prevention and Clinical Medicine”. The report focused on artificial intelligence in medical health, major disease prevention, and diagnosis, and future super-aggregation medicine(Super Convergence Medicine) and other forward-looking research areas have been detailed and in-depth discussions. Academician Zhang introduced the concept of “health engineering”.
The convergence of science, engineering, and medicine for health are aimed at improving human health. The innovative technology of early prevention, early detection, early diagnosis, early intervention and early rehabilitation of major diseases is the research direction, with 8P- Health is the core guiding ideology, a new research discipline that cross-disciplinary integration of multiple scales from molecules, cells, organs to systematic biological levels. Its ultimate (final) goal is to fully integrate science, engineering, technology, and medicine into the practical application of human health. One of the core research contents is the integration of artificial intelligence, machine intelligence, human intelligence.
AcademicianZhang also proposed the future P-health paradigm - "8-P health": Preventive, Participatory, Patient-Centered, Pre-emptive, Individual(Personalized), predictive (predictive), accuracy (Precision), universal (pervasive) eight factors to be considered together. Morethan 120 teachers and students from the School of mechanical engineering and other related colleges of Zhejiang University participated in this academic report.
At the free discussion meeting after the academic report, AcademicianZhang Yuanting conducted scientific research on human body fluid circulation dynamics and medical health robots, and related project leaders of the State Key Laboratory of Fluid Power and MechatronicSystems of Zhejiang University. The discussion was extended and the possibility of further international scientific cooperation was discussed in-depth and a preliminary consensus was reached.
