Unified wear and fatigue analysis of mechanical components

Professor Michael Khonsari

Wear and fatigue of materials involve a variety of complex and physically diverse phenomena that often occur in an inextricably intertwined fashion. Although often treated as separate phenomena, wear and fatigue are manifestation of the same physics. In this seminar, I present results of a series of recent experimental and analytical development associated with surface degradation such as adhesive wear as well as fatigue fracture based on our recent research that appear to offer a promising path forward for the development of predictive methodologies for variety of applications.
